The New Jersey Department of the Treasury's Office of the Chief Economist is seeking a Policy Analyst who will:
-- Examine proposed government actions for their impact on employment and income in and throughout New Jersey, as well as their effects on government spending and revenues.
-- Monitor economic indicators for New Jersey and the nation.
-- Conduct research studies related to federal and state programs.
-- Perform SQL-language queries.
-- Evaluate results of research and prepare reports, recommendations and conclusions.
-- Generate, assemble and format data bases for use in research.
-- Perform statistical and economic analyses using computer packages, such as Statistical Analysis System (SAS).
-- Write reports on New Jersey�s economy.
-- Represent the Office of Chief Economist at internal and external meetings.
Requirements: A Master's degree in economics, statistics, public administration or business administration. Two (2) years of comprehensive technical research and analysis experience in the field of economics or a closely allied field having a strong economics orientation. Experience is needed in the use of at least one basic statistical package for the analysis of economic data, such as SAS or Stata. Excellent writing and speaking skills are needed, specifically, the ability to communicate the implications of technical findings to a wider audience. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with programming skills in Visual Basic and a familiarity with SQL-Server.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is offered as well. In accordance with the New Jersey First Act P.L. 2011 c70, new public employees are required to obtain New Jersey residency within one (1) year of employment.
** Staff will be interviewing candidates at the 2014 Allied Social Sciences Association Meeting in Philadelphia, January 3-5.
