Description of Duties:
The Capital Markets Room (CMR) Manager is responsible for managing the usage of the CMR facility by interacting with other organizations in the Fox School of Business and Temple University. In addition, the Manager will oversee and maintain orderly operations of the CMR facility. The position requires a thorough understanding of finance (e.g., financial instruments, financial valuation models, and investment and risk management strategies) and the supporting technology (e.g., data feeds, hardware, software, etc.).
Additional Description of Duties:
Design capital markets related case studies, assignments and projects. Assist with the integration of modeling, database usage and understanding, and student training in finance and non-finance courses through the various platforms available in the CMR. Develop public and customized corporate training sessions on capital market topics. Develop and maintain online tutorials on financial databases and software.
Work with administration to enhance/extend the reputation of the Center and University, including regular presentations for various outreach efforts for the Dean's Office and the various Departments within the Fox School. Oversee the CMR's annual budget, and coordinate purchases and goals for new acquisitions, retirements, and maintenance of equipment and software with the Director of Fox Information Technology. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with software and database vendors to expand the technologies available to faculty and students while reducing the annual budget requirements. Hire, train and supervise the CMR staff (students). Of primary importance, the Manager will interact with faculty to promote the integration of the CMR resources in finance and non-finance courses.
In conjunction with managing the CMR, the position has a 4-course teaching load per academic year. The courses will primarily revolve around CMR usage (e.g., Financial Modeling, Financial Statement Analysis, Equity and Fixed Income Research, etc.).
Position Qualifications:
Master or Ph.D. degree in finance, accounting, or economics (or other quantitative business discipline) plus a strong understanding of financial instruments, basic financial valuation models, and trading and risk management activities in a global setting. Previous experience in managing an academic financial laboratory is a strong plus, as is prior experience in the financial services industry (ideally in money management, and holding a CFA charter), and experience teaching at the college/university level.
The Manager is expected to have a strong and thorough understanding of EXCEL. In addition, the position requires familiarity with data-feeds and software, such as Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, Capital IQ, FactSet, Thomson One Analytics, Datastream, S&P CompuSTAT, CRSP, Worldscope, WRDS, SDC Platinum. Candidates for the position should have experience with statistical/econometric packages, such as STATA, SAS, SPSS, Matlab, and/or Mathematica. Excellent communication and management skills are a must.
