NBER’s Fellowship Program in Retirement and Disability Policy, supported by the Social Security Administration, seeks applications from doctoral students for research on health, labor, behavioral, and other economic/policy aspects of retirement and/or disability.
The fellowship provides time and resources for independent research, with supervision from one’s dissertation advisor. Selections are based on assessment of policy relevance and potential to make a contribution to understanding retirement and/or disability.
The fellowship offers a 12-month stipend of $29,500 and tuition at the fellow’s home institution (up to $16,000) plus health insurance and limited funds for research expenses/travel. A research paper or progress report on the funded topic must be submitted by the end of the fellowship year, and will be a critical component of renewal applications.
Applicants must be full-time PhD candidates at a North American college or university; address a topic directly relevant to retirement or disability policy; and be recommended by their dissertation supervisor. NBER is not able to sponsor a visa for this position.
NBER strongly encourages applications from women, members of groups under-represented in the economics profession, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
Applications that are not marked “Complete” by the deadline will not be considered. Questions to info@nber.org.
