The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), with support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, invites applications for up to six dissertation fellowships for the 2025-2026 academic year. These fellowships aim to expand research on the fiscal and economic effects of innovation and productivity policies, with a focus on R&D, immigration, and infrastructure permitting. Additionally, up to six early-career researchers (PhDs awarded in 2014 or later) may be selected for non-funded fellowships, with an opportunity to participate in a research conference.
Fellowships provide a $34,000 stipend, up to $13,000 in tuition assistance, and mentorship from a faculty member with expertise in their research area. Fellows will be expected to participate in an NBER workshop in Washington, DC, in summer 2026. Applicants for the dissertation fellowships must be doctoral students who will have advanced to candidacy by the start of the fellowship.
Applications are due by 11:59 pm (ET) on Thursday, January 16, 2025. NBER encourages applications from women, underrepresented groups in economics, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
