The Department of Economics invites applications for the 2027-28 Farley Distinguished Visiting Scholar in Economic History, including related fields such as political economy, development, and cultural evolution. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research combines historical analysis with modern empirical or theoretical tools and who contribute to interdisciplinary conversations across the social sciences.

The appointment is for at least two terms in an academic year. They receive a stipend of CAD $55,000 to teach one course and are provided with a CAD $7,500 budget for public engagement activities. A successful candidate must hold an academic position at another university or an equivalent position at another appropriate institution.

Applications should be submitted electronically to farley@sfu.ca and include a current CV and cover letter outlining the following:
(1) a research plan for the duration of the Visiting Scholar position;
(2) a brief description of a proposed course;
(3) a brief account of the proposed public engagement activity, including the topic(s) to be addressed;
(4) the names and contact information of two referees.
