Full Text of JOE Listing:

The School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at UC San Diego http://irps.ucsd.edu invites applications for an Assistant Professor in the areas of science, technology, engineering, innovation and public policy with a strong grounding in political science or applied microeconomics to begin July 1, 2015. PhD conferred or completed by July 1, 2015 is required.

Successful candidates will be social scientists or scientists and engineers who work at the intersection between science, technology, engineering, innovation, and public policy. Applicants may be social scientists that study public policy but are steeped in the practice of engineering, biomedicine, or technological change. They could also be engineers or scientists whose research is substantially concerned with public policy, such as on how advanced water, energy or health technologies are put into practice. Other types of scholars that we would consider include political scientists or economists who study technological change or the determinants of national innovation, or who research the management of innovation and entrepreneurship. IR/PS has a special interest in candidates who can research and teach in public policy and engineering with an international focus. The successful candidate will have the ability to build a research and teaching program on technology and public policy at IR/PS and able to facilitate working closely with other UCSD units, in particular the Jacobs School of Engineering. For the appropriate candidate there may also be opportunities working with an initiative on climate change adaptation jointly with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), but that focus is not a requirement for the position.

The School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) http://irps.ucsd.edu/ at UC San Diego (UCSD) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body. Preferred candidates should demonstrate the highest standards of professional research, teaching, and service and contribute to our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
Review of applications will begin October 31, 2014 and continue until the position is filled.
