Applications are invited for a tenure track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in the Department of Bioresource Policy, Business and Economics commencing July 1, 2015. This position was created through a generous one-time contribution from the Canadian Canola Growers' Association and the funding is in place. The position is going through formal university processes to be designated as “Chair of Agricultural Policy”. The College of Agriculture and Bioresources is an international leader in applied research and scholarship with expertise in, and integrated across, three primary scientific and social domains: food and bioproduct sciences; environment, ecology, community and sustainable production systems. The Department of Bioresource Policy, Business and Economics in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources offers a Ph.D. and M.Sc in agricultural economics, as well as undergraduate programs in agribusiness, agricultural economics, and renewable resource management (resource economics and policy major). The department also hosts a diploma in agribusiness. The department has a long and distinguished record of research, teaching and stakeholder engagement and is recognized as a leader in the field of agricultural economics and policy.
Duties:
The incumbent will be expected to develop a successful and well-funded program of research in agricultural economics that addresses a broad range of agricultural policy issues, including those of relevance to the canola sector. The incumbent will deliver courses in agricultural economics at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in areas such as agricultural policy, industrial organization, innovation, international trade, agri-food marketing. Teaching will be assigned according to the qualifications and expertise of the successful applicant. The incumbent will be expected to provide leadership and mentorship to graduate/undergraduate students in their research and studies. The incumbent will be expected to engage with relevant stakeholders to identify issues, seek and obtain research funds, and communicate research results.
Qualifications:
Candidates will have a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics or equivalent. For appointment at the level of assistant professor, there should be strong evidence of the ability to introduce an in-depth program of research related to agricultural economics and policy. Evidence of high quality post-secondary teaching is also an asset. For appointment at the level of associate professor the candidate must have an established program of successful research, including publications in high quality journals and evidence of the ability to secure research funding. Compelling evidence of high quality post-secondary teaching, including graduate student supervision is also required for appointment at the level of associate professor. All candidates must also have a demonstrated ability to operate as a team player in a collegial environment and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders. This position comes with a comprehensive benefits package which includes pension plan, life insurance (compulsory and voluntary), sick leave, travel insurance, death benefit, dental plan, extended health and vision care plan, employee assistance program and flexible health and wellness spending program. The wage range for this position is: Assistant Professor $90,796 - $109,108; Associate Professor $109,108 - $127,420.
