The Survey Research Center (http://www.isr.umich.edu/src/) within the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research is seeking an economist at the rank of Associate or Full Research Professor to join the leadership team of The Panel Study of Income Dynamics (www.psidonline.org).
We are interested in appointing a scholar with exceptional leadership skills and demonstrated commitment to scientific excellence. The candidate must have a proven track record of scholarly achievement and the ability to thrive in the entrepreneurial, interdisciplinary, and collegial culture of SRC. The ideal candidate would be a scientific leader in the field of economics, or closely-related social or policy science discipline, with a history of interdisciplinary collaborations, a demonstrated focus analyzing large-scale survey data, and a successful record of entrepreneurial activity to support innovative data collection and research. Prior experience managing survey design, fieldwork, web-based collection, or other aspects of data production and dissemination are highly desirable.
The successful candidate will collaborate with PSID's team of Directors to continue to expand the study and plan strategically for the next phase of growth. S/he will be expected to:
• Effectively collaborate as a member of PSID's leadership team, providing both intellectual and administrative leadership to PSID's core and supplemental studies;
• Conduct scholarly research related to economic measurement of individuals, families, and households;
• Strengthen established ties to the social science research community to ensure that the study continues to collect cutting edge data that respond to current scientific and policy needs;
• Represent the study to its sponsors, and particularly to the National Science Foundation;
• Actively lead the development of strategic planning and research funding in the area of economic measurement and participate in development of research funding for the project.
The successful candidate will develop and maintain a portfolio of independently funded research projects. A joint appointment with an appropriate department at the University of Michigan, and/or teaching opportunities, is also possible. Salary is highly competitive.
