The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong. It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees. It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,200. The total consolidated expenditure budget of the University is close to HK$5 billion per year.
The School of Accounting and Finance of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is the longest established accounting department in the HKSAR with around 100 full-time academic staff with expertise in accounting, finance, economics, and law. The School has adequate resources to support a variety of research interests and activities, and has comparative advantage in promoting cross-disciplinary research that is needed in the modern business world. The School has maintained an excellent network of institutions on the Chinese mainland for collaborative work.
The research of our Faculty of Business is ranked 68th in the world and 4th in Hong Kong (The UTD Top 100 Worldwide Business School Rankings based on research published in 24 top business journals for the period 2009-2013). Our Economics team is specialised in the research areas of Chinese economy, international economics, financial economics, production economics and energy economics, with a focus on economics-based inter-disciplinary research. In the last few years, faculty members were successful in publishing papers in top-tier refereed journals, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, Applied Econometrics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Journal of Development Economics and World Development. The School hosts two highly regarded international journals, namely The Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics and China Accounting and Finance Review.
The HKSAR is an international city located strategically at the heart of Asia and is the gateway to China, with excellent transport links to major international cities. PolyU’s campus is located near the harbour connecting Kowloon and the Hong Kong Island, and in the vicinity of Tsim Sha Tsui, which is the most popular area for visitors.

The School is now inviting applications for a position of Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Economics for the academic year 2014/15. The appointee is expected to contribute to the following areas: (a) undertaking teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels (some evening teaching is expected); (b) conducting research that leads to publications in top-tier refereed journals; (c) providing leadership in research and programme/curriculum development; (d) engaging in research, high-level consultancy, and other scholarly activities; (e) supervising graduate students; and (f) performing academic and administrative duties.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and excellent communication skills. Applicants for the post of Assistant Professor should have the potential to publish in top-tier refereed journals. For appointment at the Associate Professor level, applicants are in addition required to have (a) extensive university teaching and relevant research experience; (b) a strong publication record in top-tier refereed journals; and (c) good networks in both academia and the profession at regional and international levels. Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment at the level of Assistant Professor.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor level.
