The Faculty of Economics and Management of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in cooperation with the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) seeks qualified candidates to fill two positions at the rank of

Assistant Professor (W1) in Financial Economics.

We expect the candidate to have a strong interest in teaching and research in Financial Economics. Ideally the focus should be on empirical research

- dealing with the international integration of financial markets and the relationship to the regulation of the financial system and/or
- the interaction between the financial system and the real economy.

A quantitative research approach and experience with the latest empirical methods, as well as a desire to apply economic research to policy questions are desirable.

The Assistant Professorships serve to deepen the collaboration between the University and the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH). The IWH is one of the six economic research institutes of the Leibniz Association in Germany (www.iwh-halle.de). The IWH focuses on research in finance, macroeconomics, and productivity and innovation. The two Assistant Professorships are intended to strengthen the joint research focus in Finance of the IWH and the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

The requirements for both positions are: the completion of a PhD in Economics or Finance by summer of 2015 at the latest, the potential for successful publications in international journals, and ideally an existing network of international research collaborations. It is expected that the candidates will teach in the Faculty’s Bachelor and Masters Programmes. While knowledge of German is desirable, it is not a requirement for the position.

In legal terms, there will be an individual selection process carried out for each of the two positions hereby announced. However, applications will be equally consid-ered in both appointment procedures.

The employees are assigned the status of civil servants with limited tenure (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit). The contract will initially be limited to three years, and may be extended by a further three years given a positive evaluation.
