The Independent Budget Office (IBO), a NYC government agency, is seeking an experienced economist with a keen interest in public policy to join our tax and economics team. Candidates with a background in public finance, tax policy analysis, a thorough understanding of the NYC economy and/or detailed knowledge of one or more of the leading sectors in the city’s tax base are strongly preferred.

Ongoing responsibilities include quantitative research on economics and taxes, forecasting one or more of the city’s major tax revenue sources, and tracking NYC’s economy. A Ph.D. in economics or related field is preferred; equivalent work experience may substitute. Experience in an applied research organization and writing for a policy-oriented audience a plus.

Candidates should be detail-oriented and able to demonstrate skills in quantitative research and policy analysis. Commitment to impartial and independent research is essential. Must be comfortable working in a collaborative environment, juggling multiple tasks, and interacting with a variety of stakeholders on relevant city issues. Ability to take initiative and meet deadlines is critical.

Salary range: $70,000-$95,000 depending upon experience. NYC residency may be required. EOE.
