Post-Doctoral Position in Economics, especially Development Economics
The School of Business, Economics and Law is recruiting a postdoc in Economics, especially Development Economics, located at the Department of Economics. The Department of Economics has about 110 employees; further information about the Department is found at www.economics.gu.se.
Job assignments
The position includes 80 percent research and 20 percent teaching and/or administrative duties. The candidate is expected to contribute to the research program independently and in collaboration with other researchers affiliated with the Department of Economics on the “Impacts of new forms of aid in Sub-Saharan Africa: Governance challenges and distributional consequences”. The aim of the project is to investigate the nature and implications of the changing aid landscape. Focusing primarily on Sub-Saharan Africa, we intend to investigate the nature of the new forms of development cooperation, its distributional consequences and the challenges it brings in terms of governance, within as well as across countries. Doing so, we will highlight sources of inequity that needs addressing and how to best organize development cooperation so as to ensure aid effectiveness in the world’s poorest region. There will be funds available for travel, but the candidate should also seek to develop research proposals that can attract external funding. The department offers a stimulating environment within the field. We expect candidates to aim at publishing in leading or highly ranked journals.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
Assessment
The applicant who, in the overall assessment of skills and potential, is deemed to be best suited to carry out the identified job assignments will be selected for the post.
Skills with respect to cooperation with the surrounding community and informing about research nationally and internationally will be assigned importance as well.
The recruitment process may include interviews and trial lectures.
