Role of the Economist/Analyst
Dodge & Cox has been deepening and broadening its global research capabilities over the last decade to support its growing global investment strategies. The Economist/Analyst will be a member of our San Francisco-based research team working with both the equity and fixed income groups to identify global investment opportunities and quantify risk exposures. The Economist/Analyst will be an integral member of our macroeconomic team, conducting research on sovereign credit, interest rate and currency analysis to support our global bond product.
Primary responsibilities include:
Identifying attractive international investment opportunities and/or risks to share with the investment teams
Making written and oral investment recommendations regarding country, duration and currency positioning to our investment committees
Enhancing our asset class forecasts, and our quantitative estimates of macroeconomic exposures
Contributing to discussions around currency hedging in our global equity strategies
Articulating our macro views and strategy to potential investors and clients
Collaborating with other investment professionals and senior management of Dodge & Cox
Qualifications
Dodge & Cox targets candidates with high levels of academic and professional achievement and leadership ability.
Candidates should have:
Excellent academic record, preferably a PhD in economics from a top university
Solid understanding of econometrics and empirical data analysis
Knowledge of fixed income, equity, and currency modeling and investing
Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment
Strong oral and written communication skills suitable for a variety of audiences
Experience in the policy and or finance sector is a plus
