Full Text of JOE Listing:
The position will be primarily based in New Haven, on the Yale University campus, working with Mushfiq Mobarak, Professor of Economics, on seasonality and migration related research. The organization Evidence Action, which brings evidence-based global poverty and public health interventions to scale to reach millions of people, and Professor Mobarak are collaborating on the “No Lean Season” program that provides travel subsidies to poor rural households in Rangpur District, Bangladesh to look for temporary job opportunities in urban areas during the period between September and December, when fewer wage-earning opportunities are available locally. Several rounds of research, led in parts by Mushfiq Mobarak, have demonstrated the benefits of seasonal migration towards income levels and food security. Evidence Action now wishes to transition the project from a set of tightly-controlled research pilots to a large-scale program offered to hundreds of thousands of recipients in Bangladesh and beyond.
The focus of this position will be to evaluate the generalizability of existing evidence and its applicability to program implementation, as well as provide insight on the nuances of an intervention’s causal mechanisms and scope for applicability in other country contexts.
