Leadership Opportunity
The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is seeking a Senior Regional Officer for our Cincinnati Office. The successful candidate will serve as the Bank's regional economist; as the Bank's senior official in the Cincinnati area; and manage relationships with key stakeholders. This role is responsible for maintaining a strong presence and positive reputation for the Bank throughout its Cincinnati region and reports to the Senior Vice President of External Outreach and Regional Analytics. To qualify a Master's degree in Economics or a related field is required; a PhD in Economics or a related field is preferred along with a minimum of 10 years of work experience in economics or a related field.
Specific expectations include:
•Serve as the Bank’s regional economist and subject matter expert in the Cincinnati region
-Engage in economic research, analysis, and discussions that are used to advise and inform the President and Board of Directors on economic conditions and/or various policy issues.
-Analyze regional data, anecdotal reports, and summarizes findings in periodic pre-FOMC briefings which support the Bank President’s role as the Fourth District voice on monetary policy.
-Conduct independent economic research and present knowledge and findings to professional audiences, conferences, the Bank and the Federal Reserve System. Maintain consistent, independent research activity. Serve as a resource to other areas of the Bank and/or Federal Reserve System.
-Contribute to Bank Publications: author’s articles for Bank publications (primarily Forefront, the Bank’s general audience publication). Assist in the preparation of the Beige Book and the identification and recruitment of Beige Book participants.
-Keep informed of current economic issues and provide advice on economic policy issues of interest to stakeholders. Identify and champion emerging issues or topics in the region that warrant further study; collaborate with others in Research as appropriate.
•Serve as the Bank’s senior official in the branch region
-Maintain knowledge of the Bank’s strategic priorities, policy views, and key messages and align regional outreach with Bank priorities.
--Support the Bank’s Research, Community Development, Regional Analytics and Public Affairs programs by maintaining broad knowledge of the Bank’s work and priorities for these functional areas.
--Collaborate with functional management and participate in regional programs.
-Develop relationships with a broad network of stakeholders in the Cincinnati region in support of the Bank’s mission and in accordance with its outreach strategy and plan. Ensure geographic diversity of contacts, including, but not limited to:
--Leaders of Top 50 companies in region;
--Bankers and financial services industry groups;
--Public officials and policymakers (Federal, state and local); and
--Local chambers of commerce and regional economic development organizations.
-Deliver speeches or presentations to regional audiences on a variety of topics including regional economic conditions, results of research conducted, and other requested topics consistent with the Bank’s mission.
-Build and maintain relationships with universities in the Cincinnati region with strong economics programs to identify potential research collaborations and university-sponsored events/activities in which the Bank might participate or contribute our expertise.
-In collaboration with the Bank’s Public Affairs department, identify and help coordinate engagement opportunities for the president and other district experts in the Cincinnati branch region.
-Support community organizations through service on boards of directors or other activities.
•Manage the Bank’s relationship with the Cincinnati branch’s board of directors and business advisory councils
-Recruit prominent business and community leaders to serve as directors and business advisory council members.
-Keep directors informed of the Bank’s strategic objectives and performance.
-Develop agendas for board meetings in consultation with the Office of the Corporate Secretary.
-Coordinate board meetings and provides overview of recent economic developments.
-Collect and summarize director commentary on local economic developments.
-Organize and lead business advisory committee meetings and other roundtable sessions with business and community leaders.
-Collect and summarize commentary from these meetings.
•Serve as the local, coordinating contact for Cincinnati branch office
-Work with local and district management to create and maintain an effective branch environment and culture through ongoing meetings with management team and employee communications and programs.
-Keep the Bank’s senior management informed of branch accomplishments, concerns and emerging issues.
-Model the Bank values of accountability, excellence, inclusion, innovation, integrity, and service.
Critical Background and Capabilities:
Qualifications: The following demonstrated qualifications are requisite for the position.
-A Master’s degree in Economics or a related field is required; a PhD in Economics or a related field is preferred.
-Minimum of 10 years of work experience in economics or a related field.
-Experience in producing research utilizing statistical methods to analyze economic data, writing for internal/external publications, and advising senior management on policy issues.
-Experience working with economic and community development constituencies is desirable.
-Demonstrated experience in leading initiatives or organizational units that meet and exceed performance expectations.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills that allow complex ideas to be presented at a level accessible to a general audience.
-High level of motivation and organizational agility.
-Demonstrated ability to develop productive and collaborative relationships with senior level management, peers and other key stakeholders.
