The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has an immediate opening for a Labor Economist in the Division of Biomedical Research Workforce (DBRW) within the Office of Extramural Programs, Office of Extramural Research, Office of the Director. The DBRW provides ongoing analysis of the biomedical research workforce and evaluation of NIH policies to enable NIH to sustain the biomedical research workforce at all levels. This position will contribute to the work of the office by conducting research and analysis on biomedical research and workforce economics and trends independently and in collaboration with other colleagues. Work is based on supporting the needs and interests of NIH leadership.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of labor economics, health economics, and/or science policy; experience with economic modeling, preferably workforce modeling, and demonstrated skills using and analyzing national public-use microdata, administrative data, and/or large relational databases; and, is familiar with the economic theory of price indexes and other macroeconomic indicators.
Additional skills preferred include competency in Oracle/SQL, Stata, SAS, and other statistical software, the ability to work independently or in a team, multitask efficiently, and a desire to work in a multidisciplinary environment conducting research on the U.S. biomedical research workforce.
