Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Department of Marine Ecosystems and Society (MES) at UM’s RSMAS is recruiting a tenure track or tenured faculty member in Environmental and Resource Economics. The position is open to any rank and the salary is competitive and commensurate with rank/experience.
This position is an extraordinary opportunity. RSMAS is one of the world’s premier tropical marine and atmospheric research institutions and is focused on improving prediction and management of Earth’s coupled physical, biological and human systems and responses to environmental changes. The MES Department vision is to foster innovative multidisciplinary research and education centered on the conservation and sustainability of marine ecosystems and the services they provide to society. RSMAS recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation of its facilities on Virginia Key.
The individual will have expertise in quantitative research at the interface between natural and social sciences, in particular, someone who employs modern business, economic, finance and/or management science methods to inform policy-oriented research and decision-making. The individual will complement existing MES academic faculty strengths in quantitative resource management theory and methods to assess marine fisheries and ecosystem risks from exploitation and environmental changes. We also encourage applications by innovative scholars who may not have worked explicitly on marine ecosystems, but can apply their skills to this topic and other active RSMAS research areas, including natural hazards, climate and water resource management.
We seek outstanding candidates with high scholarly productivity, ability to secure extramural funds, and excellent teaching and communication skills. They will be expected to enhance the School’s undergraduate, masters and Ph.D. programs, and will build linkages with other parts of the University including, but not limited to, the Institute of Theoretical and Mathematical Ecology, Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy, Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science, and School of Business Administration.
Applications should include a statement of research interests, research sample, curriculum vitae, and names and contact information for five references. Candidates may submit their application or a request for more information to: MESSearch@rsmas.miami.edu. We anticipate conducting interviews for the position in late 2017 and early 2018.
The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer. Females, Minorities, Veterans and those with Disabilities are encouraged to apply.
