The Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates an opening for a junior or senior Research Economist in the Compensation Research and Program Development Group. Duties are equally divided between (1) self-directed research, and (2) activities that enhance the quality and usefulness of BLS programs and data. Self-directed research activities include being active within the academic community by presenting at seminars and conferences, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and participating in internal seminars. BLS research activities involve a range of BLS data, including the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, the National Compensation Survey, and the Occupational Requirements Survey. The ideal candidate has a solid background in labor and/or health economics, strong econometric skills, superior writing skills, the ability to analyze large microdata files, and familiarity with survey design. Applicants should have a PhD or expect one by September 2019.
