Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Center for Innovative Governance Research seeks a Research Fellow to develop our charter cities research program. Founded in 2017, the Center is a nonprofit that exists to create the ecosystem for charter cities around the world. We help entrepreneurs, new cities, investors, policy experts, and government officials understand what charter cities are and how to implement them.

The Center for Innovative Governance Research is an emerging leader in a rapidly growing space. As such, he or she will be given a great deal of responsibility. We are looking for a highly-motivated, highly-ambitious individual with a desire to produce research of consequence. The Center has secured funding for the Research Fellow for one year, however the position may be extended if the candidate exceeds expectations.

The Center’s charter cities research program will have two main components. First, what we describe as foundational research. This includes the basic economic, legal, and moral justifications for charter cities. Foundational research prioritizes deep, timeless questions surrounding the nature of governance. The second aspect of our research program will explore practical questions that can help inform the previously-mentioned charter city stakeholders in their decision making. Examples include assessing the impact of changes in the Doing Business Index on urban land values, and identifying the decision trees Dubai, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi utilized in creating their respective financial systems.

Other responsibilites include drafting RFPs and reviewing submissions, and organizing weekend seminars for graduate students. The Research Fellow will also be essential in promoting the Center ‘s work within academia and international organizations, e.g. the World Bank and World Economic Forum.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in economics with a focus on development. Additionally, they should be knowledgeable of and demonstrate interest in political science, philosophy, international affairs, and history. Salary will be commensurate with experience. To apply, please send the following to Tamara@InnovativeGovernance.org.
