The American Institutes for Research (AIR) International Research and Evaluation group strives to improve the quality of life in developing countries by generating rigorous evidence to inform policies and programs. We conduct impact evaluations on a wide range of topics including cash transfer programs, early childhood nutrition and development programs, education interventions, health programs, women’s empowerment, and agricultural interventions. We partner with locally based researchers to provide context relevant policy analysis and to help build the research capacity in developing countries. Our work contributes to policy and financial decisions at the national and international level in countries around the world.
AIR is seeking a Senior Quantitative Researcher to join our International Research and Evaluation group in Washington, D.C. The position offers an opportunity to be part of our growing team of international evaluation researchers who are passionate about helping to identify programs that improve the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities
• Serve as project director or principal investigator
• Lead the design and writing of proposals and deliverables
• Lead efforts to collect, compile, validate, interpret, and analyze data and trends using standard practices and techniques
• Apply quantitative techniques and methods
• Work on complex assignments under indirect supervision
• Responsible for maintaining and checking the accuracy of data for assigned projects
• Manage and train enumerators in developing countries to help collect data
• Participate in and/or lead business development activities
• Stay abreast of new developments and techniques in the field of policy research
• Contribute to building AIR’s eminence in the field of development research through presentations at conferences and publishing journal articles
Qualifications
• PhD in Economics, Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Education, or related fields
• Minimum of 8 years of experience conducting research in developing countries
• Experience conducting impact and performance evaluations of programs in developing countries
• Knowledge of STATA or other quantitative software package required
• Experience designing quantitative surveys, training enumerators, and presenting results to stakeholders
• Proven experience in business development, developing proposals for international donors required
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Track record of publications and conference presentations
• Candidates speaking French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic in addition to English preferred
