The Office of the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs is seeking a highly-motivated and capable executive to serve as the Deputy Chief Economist.

Duties:
o review/evaluate the conduct of the Department of Commerce's (DOC) economic affairs programs; develop/revise basic economic and statistical policies; plan/conduct major economic studies affecting or related to the economy as a whole; and represent the Chief Economist in important liaison assignments.

o serve as an authoritative advisor and analyze U.S. economic performance and factors affecting this performance, on the design and implementation of complex economic research, and on a broad array of economic issues.

o review/evaluate the economic impact of proposed legislation and assist the Office of General Counsel in preparing DOC positions on such legislation, and review/comment on regulatory analyses prepared by agencies within and outside of DOC.

o conduct technically demanding and/or time-sensitive economic research tasks which may include the development/analysis of policy proposals that substantially affect the Department’s mission and programs, and prepare written and oral briefings for senior Departmental officials.

o give presentations within the Department and to other Government agencies, business groups, the press and professional groups on the economic situation and outlook.
