Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Department of Economics of the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) and Saint John's University (SJU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Economics beginning in August 2020. Review of applications begins on November 13, 2019 and continues until the position is filled.

The Department of Economics is lively, collegial, and includes economists from a variety of sub-disciplines. All are dedicated to helping students understand the practical implications of their undergraduate economics courses both for their future careers and for responsible citizenship in service to the common good. Small class sizes allow faculty and students to get to know each other and work together.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking an economist committed to undergraduate teaching who specializes in macroeconomics and the macroeconomic aspects of international trade and finance. The successful candidate will regularly teach Introduction to Economics, Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory, advanced courses in international macroeconomics, and, periodically, the department's capstone course. The candidate will also be expected to teach occasionally in the colleges' general education curriculum and will have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary programs, such as Asian Studies, Gender Studies, Latino/Latin American Studies, and the McCarthy Center for Public Policy and Civic Engagement. Other responsibilities include advising students regarding academic and life goals and participating in service at the departmental and campus levels.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a PhD in Economics (or receive a PhD by September 1, 2020). Applicants are required to have a specialization in macroeconomics and the macroeconomic aspects of international trade and finance. A subspecialty in quantitative methods is preferred. Applicants must have strong teaching skills, effective written and oral communication skills, a strong commitment to inclusion and the desire to work with students from diverse backgrounds, a strong commitment to undergraduate education, and a strong commitment to liberal arts education, including a robust interest in linking economics to larger human questions inside and outside the discipline. Because the College of Saint Benedict is a college for women, the Department is especially interested in encouraging women to major in economics. Thus, candidates are expected to indicate how they would encourage and support women in economics if appointed to the position. Candidates must have strong research skills and a commitment to professional growth in teaching and scholarship.
