Postdoctoral Research Associate Position, Chinese Agricultural Policy and Trade Analysis
Drs. Edward Balistreri, Dermot Hayes and Wendong Zhang are recruiting a postdoctoral research associate to study Chinese Agricultural Policy and Trade. Funding is available for two years (12 months for each of two years) from summer 2020 to summer 2022 with a possible additional, third year. The position is partially funded through a USDA NIFA grant focused on the quantifying the impacts of US-China and global policy through international markets, and partially through support from ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Specific duties will include:
1. Research and analyze critical Chinese agricultural policies and market trends, agricultural trade, and publish research results in scholarly journals. Topics include but not limited to trade and agricultural markets with an emphasis on meat and feed grains, China’s agricultural risk management policies, and agri-environmental policies.
2. Contribute to the new USDA NIFA grant led by Dr. Balistreri to quantify the transmission Of US-China and global policy impacts through a new commodity-specific international general-equilibrium system
3. Write approximately three Choices-magazine-style policy briefs each year explaining changes in Chinese agriculture, trade, and policy. See the ISU China Ag center website at https://www.card.iastate.edu/china/publications/ for examples.
4. Collect and assemble key nationwide and provincial level statistics for major commodity markets in China.
5. Collaborate with researchers at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
6. Lead or contribute on grant proposals to agencies such as U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. in economics or agricultural economics.
Preferred qualifications:
• Research experience in international and agricultural trade modeling
• Written and oral fluency in Chinese and English
• Research expertise in Chinese agriculture
• Experience working effectively with project teams and professional groups
