California State University, Bakersfield, founded in 1970, is one of twenty-three campuses of the CSU System and currently has an enrollment of over 12,000 students. The University services a socially and ethnically diverse population of 900,000 in an area of 10,000 square miles. The city of Bakersfield (population over 380,000) is located in the southern San Joaquin Valley and has a much lower cost of living than coastal California. Los Angeles, the Pacific Ocean, Mojave Desert, and Sierra Nevada Mountains are all within a two-hour drive from campus.

The Department of Economics currently consists of seven faculty members. The department offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, and houses BS degrees in Agricultural Business and Environmental Resource Management. The average teaching load per academic year is ‘4+4’ courses. Faculty maintaining AACSB academic qualification standards may earn up to two courses of reassigned time, thereby reducing their teaching load. Department faculty have a 60/20/20 breakdown for teaching/research/service responsibilities.
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position starting on August 17, 2020. The department seeks a candidate who is student-oriented, an excellent teacher, and who has an active research agenda. The incumbent must meet Academic Qualifications for AACSB maintenance of accreditation; and is expected to contribute to Department and School initiatives in the community, such as applied macroeconomic research relating to the regional economy and networking related to his or her experience.
Required Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in Economics earned by the start date of August 17, 2020.
• Primary field of specialization in macroeconomics.
• Demonstrated record of excellent teaching, and an active research agenda.
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD granted after 2017.
• Secondary fields of specialization in mathematical and quantitative methods.
