The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Head of Department of Economics.
Department of Economics
The department is a growing academic unit with excellent prospects whose goal is to excel in economic learning and research. The department currently offers a wide range of courses leading to B.Soc.Sc, M.Soc.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Faculty members actively engage in research with particular focus on macroeconomic and microeconomic theories, public economics, financial economics, econometrics, and economic growth. The department is highly recognized among universities in the region, evident by some recent ranking exercises. Head of Department
While the particular field of specialization is open, the ideal candidate should possess:
• A PhD degree in the area of Economics or related field;
• An outstanding record of internationally-recognized research and scholarship;
• Record of effective teaching;
• Demonstrable competence in departmental management, planning, and communication; and
• Ability to play a leadership role in the Department.
Proficiency in English is required as it is the working language, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage.
The selected candidate may assume duty as early as August 2020.
Remuneration
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,265,440 (approximately USD156,300) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Apart from competitive remuneration, UM offers a wide range of benefits, such as medical insurance, provident fund, on campus accommodation/housing allowance and other subsidies. The effective position and salary index are subject to the Personnel Statute of the University of Macau in force. The University of Macau reserves the right not to appoint a candidate. Applicants with less qualification and experience can be offered lower positions under special circumstances.
