Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Public Policy is seeking applications for a part time lecturer to teach one or two undergraduate courses in health policy or public health effective January 1, 2021.

The School generally approaches education in public policy with emphases on the roles of science and technology, the use of evidence-based analysis in shaping policies, political processes for making policy, and the ethical and social implications of policy choices. The B.S. in Public Policy has about 120 majors and many recent graduates have moved on to graduate programs or careers in public health, consulting for health agencies, or legal careers related to health policy. Courses also draw large numbers of students from other majors, including biomedical engineering and business.

The ideal candidate should have a Masters degree in public health, health policy, or related fields. A background check must be completed prior to employment.

Among the many topics that could be included in a survey course on health policy are the evolution of the U.S. health care system and of health policy; the organization and financing of health care systems; cost and access to health care; health policy challenges and the Affordable Care Act; the roles of government in health systems and policy; the epidemiology of health and medical care, economic and ethical issues related to health care rationing, the social determinants of health; and an international perspective on the U.S. health care system. A course focusing on public health could include health communications and informatics, applications of social and behavioral sciences, law and ethics, as well as policy tools for addressing non-communicable disease, communicable diseases, environmental diseases and injury, and comparisons with health care systems in other developed countries.

Applicants should submit the following information: (1) a curriculum vita; (2) a statement of research and teaching interests with clear evidence of demonstrated teaching success; (3) a list of three references.
