The Equity Policy Lab of the World Bank's Poverty and Equity Global Practice is looking for talented Economists and Stata programmers to create innovative and just-in-time solutions to promote evidence-based policy making. One of the key areas of focus is assessing the distributional impacts of alternative tax and spending policies, however the team wishes to also grow its expertise on labor, trade, competition, and other reforms.
The candidate will become familiar with microsimulation approaches and work with country teams to implement these approaches to specific country circumstances. This work includes just-in-time assistance in the context of reforms being undertaken by member countries. In addition, the successful candidate will: 1) develop Mata functions that address common problems and improve run times of current programs; 2) develop ados that can be easily implemented by country teams; and 3) propose innovative methods and solutions to assess the distributional impacts of alternative reforms.
The candidate will work closely with country and global teams to develop solutions, often under tight deadlines but with potentially high impacts. Strong attention to detail, adaptability and the ability to work in teams is required. The consultant would ideally be based in Washington DC, but this is not a requirement.
