The Graduate Institute is offering a tenure-track position in environmental and resource economics, open to graduating doctoral students or recently graduated postdoctoral researchers.
The appointed professor will hold the Andre Hoffmann Assistant Professorship in Environmental and Resource Economics. Prior to the start of the position, the selected candidate must have been awarded a PhD in Economics and demonstrate excellence in academic research and a promising research agenda.
The successful candidate will teach postgraduate courses in environmental and resource economics, and supervise master’s dissertations and PhD theses in the Department of International Economics. The candidate will also teach courses and supervise master’s dissertations in the Institute’s graduate level programmes in International Affairs and in Development Studies, which will usually include introductory courses in environmental and resource economics and policy. They may also be called upon to contribute to executive education programmes. The Institute being interdisciplinary, the selected candidate should be interested in interdisciplinary dialogue.
The appointee will also serve as a member of the Centre for International Environmental Studies (CIES) and will help to lead its research programme. The CIES comprises faculty from all five disciplines represented at the Institute (Anthropology/Sociology, Economics, History, Law and Political Science) and presents weekly interdisciplinary seminars and occasional seminars in environmental and resource economics. The Centre hosts graduate students from all fields, and the candidate will be expected to develop research projects and supervise graduate students in the field of environmental and resource economics. Candidates must have a strong background in empirical research and a demonstrated capacity for developing and conducting research projects in this field.
The teaching language is either English or French. Prior knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire a passive knowledge of it within two years of being hired.
