Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Department of Economics invites applications for two full-time, one-year visiting positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointments will begin on July 2021. Within the last decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other areas. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst’s students are Pell Grant recipients; forty-four percent of our students are domestic students of color. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Candidates with dual-career considerations should be aware that the college participates in the Five-College Consortium, and that the other four institutions in this consortium are also hiring in a variety of fields.
The visiting professor(s) will be asked to teach two courses each semester, fall and spring, advise honors theses, and contribute to the overall academic environment of the department. The department has a strong interest in candidates who can teach courses focusing on macroeconomics and/or econometrics, (e.g. money and banking, monetary theory, macro-labor economics, economic growth, international macroeconomics)but will consider candidates with other teaching and research interests, as well as candidates who may only wish to visit for one semester (full-time). Qualifications include a Ph.D. (candidates must have the Ph.D. degree in hand or all requirements for the degree fulfilled by the start of the appointment) and a record that demonstrates promise of high-quality research and teaching. We particularly encourage applications from individuals with identities that have been underrepresented in Economics.
Please submit curriculum vitae, available teaching evaluations, research statement, job market paper, and three references through the AEA JOE system. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position(s) is/are filled.
