The Survey Research Center (SRC) (https://www.src.isr.umich.edu/) at U-M's Institute for Social Research seeks an economist or other social scientist at the rank of Research Professor or Research Associate Professor to lead the Surveys of Consumers. The Surveys of Consumers (https://www.src.isr.umich.edu/projects/surveys-of-consumers-attitudes-sca/) produces key indicators for understanding economic performance including measures of consumer sentiment and expected inflation. The Survey of Consumers pioneered the measurement of consumer expectations in nationally-representative samples and has disseminated data on them for decades. The surveys have advanced research on survey methodology and economic policy.
We are interested in appointing a distinguished senior social scientist with a proven track record of scholarly achievement and the ability to thrive in the entrepreneurial, interdisciplinary, and collegial culture of SRC. The candidate must have the qualifications to lead the methodological, operational, analytic, and dissemination functions of the Surveys of Consumers. A successful candidate could be a macroeconomist with a background in surveys or an economist or other social scientist focused on surveys who has sufficient expertise in macroeconomics to lead the analysis and dissemination activities. Prior experience in survey design, fieldwork, web-based collection, or other aspects of data production and dissemination are highly desirable.
