Come join Global Science, the research and development arm of The Nature Conservancy. In Global Science, we undertake research on linked social and environmental systems, examine the effectiveness of environmental interventions and assess empirical evidence to prioritize conservation strategies. You can be a part of our mission to build conservation knowledge based on a careful understanding of the economic and social forces that motivate human-nature interactions.
Global Science has a team of economists, natural scientists and policy researchers who work with regional and global chapters of the Nature Conservancy on a variety of land, water, marine and climate related challenges. We undertake empirical research, communicate research findings through popular and peer reviewed media and influence conservation actions by providing evidence. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in working with the Lead Economist and other scientists to address behavioral and economic questions of strategic importance. The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes:
Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
• Recent Ph.D. in development, environmental or behavioral economics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience manipulating, analyzing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data
• Experience designing and implementing socio-economic and behavioral research and collecting data through field surveys
• Experience in benefit-cost analyses
• Excellent writing skills
• Research experience in low and middle-income countries
• Knowledge on valuation techniques and other social science tools applicable to the field of conservation
• Spatial analyses
• Knowledge of and interest in behavior science
• Experience writing grants and research proposals
• Experience managing smaller projects including financial aspects and coordinating the work of peers and partners
