The Department of Economics in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan seeks applicants with a Master's or Ph.D. in Economics or related field for full-time or part-time Lecturer I positions to begin August 30, 2021, pending budgetary approval. These are non-tenure track positions.
Applicants must have earned a Master’s or Ph.D. in Economics or related field prior to commencement of appointment on either August 30, 2021 or January 1, 2022. Preference for Ph.D. in Economics. Strong preference for degree specialization or experience teaching econometrics, financial economics, or related fields.
The Department of Economics is seeking lecturers in Economics for one appointment or two consecutive appointments in Fall 2021 (8/30/2021-12/31/2021) and/or Winter 2022 (1/1/2022-4/30/2022) semesters.
Anticipated Per-Term Appointment Effort:
33% (one course), 67% (two courses) or 100% (3 courses)
Expected Appointments:
Fall 2021: 3 courses with a 100% FTE appointment
Winter 2022: 3 courses with a 100% FTE appointment
A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer I in LSA is three courses per semester. Full-time and part-time positions are available.
Duties of these Lecturer I positions are expected to include teaching, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours. The department has particular teaching needs in econometrics, statistics, and finance, among other economic subfields.
A Lecturer I would be responsible for teaching multiple sections of undergraduate courses at all levels in economics each term, examples include:
ECON 102 - Principles of Microeconomics
ECON 251 - Basic Intro to Statistics and Econometrics
ECON 310 - Money and Banking
ECON 402 - Intermediate Macroeconomics
ECON 435 - Financial Economics
ECON 451 - Intermediate Intro to Stat and Econometrics I
ECON 452 - Intermediate Intro to Stat and Econometrics II
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
