UC San Diego is seeking applications for a post-doctoral fellow (initial appointment 1-year, renewable) who aspires to become independent academic researchers in the areas of health economics and behavioral economics research related to drug use and abuse.
Position Description: The fellow will work closely with Dr. Yuyan Shi on multiple projects that 1) evaluate the impacts of drug policies, 2) examine neighborhood retail environments, and 3) conduct behavioral economics experiments to understand individual responses to marketing and product variations. Drugs of interest include marijuana, tobacco, opioids, and other licit and illicit ones. The fellow will also have opportunities to work with other interdisciplinary researchers in public health.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a doctoral degree in public health or social science (health economics, health policy, behavioral economics, agricultural economics, environmental economics, health services, or other related fields). The ideal candidates should have strong quantitative skills analyzing large-scale population surveys, administrative records, or social media data. Demonstrated ability in one of the following areas is an advantage: 1) applying spatial analysis tools such as ArcGIS, 2) developing and implementing complex survey questionnaires, 3) designing and implementing behavioral experiments, or 4) conducting fieldwork in communities. Experience in drug abuse research is preferred.
