Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Population Wellbeing Initiative is a network of researchers at the University of Texas at Austin who conduct foundational research in economics, demography, and evaluation for long-term social welfare. Scholars will be hosted by the UT-Austin Population Research Center and Economics Department.
The Postdoctoral Scholar position is self-directed but the Scholar will concentrate a portion of their intellectual energies and independent work on program-related research areas. Applicants should welcome the challenge of building this field. Although scholars are free to choose their projects, collaboration is encouraged.
Candidates should have an interest in expanding their research portfolio into our program areas, in parallel with their existing research. Examples of program areas include: fertility; long-term population growth; long-term social discounting; use of social welfare functions or population ethics in public economics and evaluation; long-term depopulation; social policy of care work and parenting; endogenous growth; policy in low-fertility populations.
Required: PhD in economics, demography, or related field
Preferred: The ideal candidate will pair this fellowship with a tenure-track position, either by deferring the start date for that position for one to two academic years, or by taking an early-career leave from their home institution.
