Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Department of Economics at the University of Houston seeks to hire a Full Professor who is an internationally recognized expert in the study of labor markets and entrepreneurship. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the determinants of entrepreneurship, the role of cognitive and non-cognitive skills in labor markets, and the origins of wage differentials based on ethnicity and gender. Candidates should also be willing and able to engage with our faculty and students not only in their own area of expertise, but also in the areas of trade, finance, and management.
In addition to their research record, the successful applicant will have demonstrated excellence in instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate level and will be able to offer courses at all levels on labor markets and entrepreneurship.
The ideal candidate should be willing to serve in a leadership role in a proposed center for the study of economic growth and opportunity. That will include organizing conferences, mentoring research associates of the center, and participating in fundraising activities. They will also collaborate with others in the department in creating a Census Research Data Center at the University of Houston.
We welcome candidates whose experience in research, teaching, and service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. We particularly value the perspective that scholars with extensive experience outside of the U.S. can bring to our faculty and student body.
The University of Houston is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Minorities, veterans, women, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Additionally, the University prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
