Mathematica applies expertise at the intersection of data, methods, policy, and practice to improve well-being around the world. We collaborate closely with public- and private-sector partners to translate big questions into deep insights that improve programs and policies.
Mathematica’s Human Services division is seeking researchers to conduct studies and support program improvement in the areas of family support, employment, education, child welfare, nutrition and criminal justice.
Depending on projects and interests, duties might include:
• Developing and executing rigorous study designs, conducting analyses of quantitative data, and applying innovative methods such as machine-learning techniques
• Contributing to briefs and reports and developing data visualizations to enhance the accessibility of findings.
• Assessing the strength of study designs and summarizing large and diverse sets of existing research through systematic reviews and meta-analyses
• Guiding policymakers and practitioners in the use of data and evidence to make decisions about program selection and adaptation
• Disseminating findings to policy, practitioner, and researcher audiences.
Position Requirements:
• Ph.D. in economics, public policy, education, statistics, data science, or a related field
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to translate complex research methods and findings for a practitioner and policy audience
• Experience working at a human services program or agency, school district, child welfare agency, state or federal government, or foundations
