NBER’s Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Research on Tax Competition, supported by Arnold Ventures, enables an early-career economist to visit NBER’s Cambridge headquarters for a year of intensive research on economic aspects of inter-jurisdictional tax competition. Potential research issues include competitive use of tax incentives to encourage business location, tax treatment of entrepreneurs and other mobile workers, taxation of income generated by firms with operations in multiple locations, and design of institutions to support tax coordination across cities, states, or nations. Applications from researchers who are just completing their PhDs, as well as from junior faculty who may be able to combine this fellowship with early career leave, are welcome.
The fellowship will provide a 12-month stipend of $90,000 for academic year 2022-2023, reimbursement for health insurance, a travel and research allowance, and an office at the NBER. The fellow will work at the NBER, and fellowship related activities will represent the fellow’s primary responsibility during the year.
Applicants must have completed their PhD by June 2022. NBER strongly encourages applications from women, members of groups that have been under-represented in the economics profession, individuals with disabilities, and veterans. NBER may be able to sponsor the fellowship recipient for a J-1 visa.
