Open Rank Search in Political Economy
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University is conducting an open-rank search for faculty in any discipline (with a particular focus on economics) who focus on questions of political economy, with particular attention to scholars whose work focuses on the economic forces shaping, interacting with (including resulting from), making possible, or challenging the realization of pluralistic democracy in global contexts and the U.S. We are particularly interested in scholars who do work related to climate change.
The SNF Agora Institute is a new, multi-disciplinary initiative that integrates research, teaching, and practice to strengthen global democracy by improving and expanding civic engagement and inclusive dialogue. A key part of our work entails transforming scholarly insights into usable knowledge for civic and political actors who can enable real-world change, and we are particularly interested in scholars who are thinking creatively about how to do this. Housed in the university’s Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, the SNF Agora Institute at JHU will serve as a leading forum bringing together experts from a range of fields—including but not limited to economics, political science, sociology, history, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy and ethics.
All SNF Agora faculty will be full members in a department at Johns Hopkins University and at the SNF Agora Institute. Economists would be jointly appointed between the SNF Agora Institute and the Department of Economics at Johns Hopkins University. Successful candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the SNF Agora Institute and a willingness to be part of a multidisciplinary endeavor.
Johns Hopkins is committed to active recruitment of a diverse faculty and student body. The university is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer of women, minorities, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities and encourages applications from these and other protected group members. Consistent with the university’s goals of achieving excellence in all areas, we will assess the comprehensive qualifications of each applicant.
