The Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates an opening for a junior or senior Research Economist in the Compensation Research and Program Development Group. Duties are equally divided between (1) self-directed research, and (2) activities that enhance the quality and usefulness of BLS programs and data. Self-directed research activities include being active within the academic community by presenting at conferences, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and participating in internal seminars. BLS activities include research to strengthen and improve measurement concepts and techniques of BLS products in the areas of wages, benefits, occupational requirements, and working conditions.
While economists from a variety of backgrounds will be considered, applicants with research interests in applied microeconomics and, in particular, labor economics are especially encouraged to apply. An interest in measurement issues related to surveys and/or administrative data is a plus. Applicants should have a PhD or expect one by September 2022.
