Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Integrated Energy & Market Analysis group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a Nuclear Energy Economist.

This role will provide expertise to the Integrated Energy & Market Analysis program and support seismic safety of INL nuclear operations.

Responsibilities Include:

The Energy Economics Analyst will coordinate and manage energy market analyses, including the potential for and impact of changing technology mix for energy supply and the reliability, sustainability, and resiliency of energy systems.
Duties may also include conducting techno-economic analysis to assess both technical feasibility and economic feasibility of specific facilities supplying clean energy for electricity and/or industrial products, including risk and uncertainty, when operated within identified regions. In particular, the facilities and proposed energy system configurations must be assessed/optimized with respect to their financial performance when interacting with the electricity market and other commodity markets (e.g., hydrogen, biofuels).
Minimum Requirements:

M.S. or Ph.D. in Economics, Operations Research, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field and a minimum of 2 to 6 years of relevant professional experience conducting quantitative analysis and leading interdisciplinary project teams or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
Preferred Requirements:

US citizen with the ability to obtain a clearance preferred.
Experience in managing small to medium teams
Experience in project/program management with geographically dispersed teams, across multiple organizations
Capable of interacting effectively with technical staff and senior managers
Capable of articulating and advocating business cases in support of technical projects
Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate with other researchers, present results at industry and academic conferences, and writing research reports and conference papers
Demonstrated skill in performing advanced quantitative analysis on economic, market, or policy issues related to power and/or critical infrastructure systems
Experience with capacity expansion, unit commitment, and dispatch models
Energy system economics, including knowledge of structure and operation of electricity markets and broader energy markets
Quantitative methods including statistical analysis and numerical modeling
Knowledge of the financial management process, including decision making under uncertainty, business case analysis including project proforma
Familiarity with nuclear plant operations
