Full Text of JOE Listing:

Wesleyan University’s Department of Economics invites applications for the non-tenure track position of Professor of the Practice in Economics beginning July 1, 2022. The initial appointment is for three years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and budget capacity. Candidates must have an Economics Ph.D. in hand or expect to receive it in the first year of the appointment.

The Professor of the Practice will primarily be responsible for developing and teaching half-semester courses in basic probability and statistics and mathematics for economists to prepare students for the calculus-based gateway introductory course and the major’s required quantitative methods course, and for coordinating and overseeing a peer tutoring program within the department. The colleague hired in this position will work with other department members to ensure appropriate alignment of the content of these courses with curricular needs, and will be expected to share in academic advising responsibilities. Depending on student demand for the preparatory courses, the successful candidate may also offer courses in their areas of specialization. The total course load, including oversight of the peer tutoring program, is equivalent to five full-semester courses per academic year.
