Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Department of Economics at Colorado State University is seeking an Associate Professor in Urban, Rural, and Regional Economics (JEL R00) to support the mission of the university’s Regional Economic Development Institute (REDI@CSU), a collaboration which includes the Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts, as well as help fulfill the goals of the Office of Engagement and Extension’s (OEE) Rural Initiative.
The successful candidate should have a sufficiently outstanding record of teaching/mentoring, scholarship, and engagement/outreach to warrant being awarded tenure and Associate Professor status from the outset of the appointment and will be expected to contribute to graduate teaching in regional economics. Candidates must have experience in communicating with diverse communities. Candidates are also encouraged to highlight associated expertise in state and local public finance, regional labor market or health analysis, and/or spatial econometrics.
The preferred candidate’s portfolio should include successful experience with securing external funding, which would be expected to continue under this appointment. The Department also expects the preferred candidate to have and continue to develop a portfolio of engaged scholarship. In that spirit, the candidate’s research and engagement activities should consider possibilities for bridging the stark rural-urban divide in Colorado, so a complementary urban economics background would be beneficial.
Effort distribution will be 25/75 Economics/Engagement in the first two years to develop a network of engaged communities and decisionmakers, with an even split between the two units from the third year onward. The position thus involves an enlarged engagement/outreach agenda supporting REDI@CSU’s efforts to improve community and economic development prospects for all of Colorado, with a particular focus on rural communities. In addition, the position’s responsibilities would comprise 1 course per year for the first two years then 2 courses per year in the third year onward, as well as undergraduate and graduate student mentoring. Alongside teaching responsibilities, the Department expects an active research and service agenda.
This position offers a defined contribution retirement plan, full benefits, sabbatical leave, and optional summer teaching when available. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but full consideration will be extended to those applications received by September 19th.
