About CRI:
CRI Foundation is a family foundation based in Boston, MA that prioritizes rigorous evidence and is dedicated to improving healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa. Our small but tight-knit staff includes experienced practitioners and academic economists. We support exceptional early-stage, data-responsive, and cost-effective organizations, and work with them to rigorously analyze and thoughtfully implement their innovations.

The Role:
In person or in person/remote hybrid.

We seek a Program Manager to work side-by-side with our current team. CRI has a relatively flat structure and the work environment is extremely collaborative.

The PM will work directly with grantees and help the foundation allocate funds. We are looking for someone with a strong economics background to add capacity to the technical arm of our team (monitoring and evaluation, developing research plans, assessing research design, assessing research findings). The ideal candidate will also be skilled in grant management, relationship management, and creative problem-solving.

CRI intentionally keeps the internal bureaucracy to a minimum. You will have the opportunity to design processes that work for you, and to experience philanthropy that moves quickly and efficiently.

Key Duties:
-Find and vet funding opportunities by assessing potential impact, cost-effectiveness, management quality, and ability to scale.
-Make funding recommendations.
-Produce literature reviews, evidence synthesis, and original analysis.
-On-board grantees to the CRI portfolio and own relationships with a subset of grantees.
-Track milestones and progress on awarded project implementation; develop appropriate course adjustments and program modifications.
-Work with grantee organizations to create support structures to enable effective evidence collection, provide learning opportunities, and maximize the probability of organization success.
-Foster effective partnerships with foundations and peer funders; build relationships with members of external review committees, awardee organizations, and other stakeholders to improve and better leverage the CRI network.
-Participate in the ongoing improvement of CRI’s internal processes, guidelines, and procedures.
-Become and remain educated in the research literature related to any areas of interest to CRI.
-Travel both domestically and internationally as necessary.

Qualifications:
-Superior organizational skills
-Proven self-direction
-Passion for improving the lives of the poor in developing countries
-Deep basis of knowledge in topics in global health
-Superior problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills
-Excellent quantitative and analytical skills; ability to collect and analyze data to inform strategic thinking, planning, and recommendations
-An aptitude for relationship building
-A strong drive for results, rigor, and evidence in decision-making
-Passion, humility, and integrity
-Deep first-hand knowledge of developing societies, including experience living and/or working in a developing country (ideally in Africa) for 1+ year
-Experience working with a nonprofit organization in health or international development
-5+ years of relevant work experience
-Strong written and oral communication skills
-Master's degree or PhD in economics required, with a background in international development

Benefits:
-30 days PTO (inclusive of vacation/sick/holidays), plus December 25 -January 1
-Health, dental, and vision insurance
-SEP IRA retirement contribution
-Lunch on in-office days
