Full Text of JOE Listing:
Community Development and Engagement (CDE) at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis seeks to hire an economist with a strong interest in conducting research related to housing economics and policy. The applied research team at CDE consists of economists and data scientists who work collaboratively on both journal-aimed research and analysis for policymakers and practitioners. Examples of prior CDE housing research include work on the effects of land-use reforms, racial disparities in mortgage denials, and investor-owned homes, among other topics.
The Economist will help identify questions for future housing-related research, often focusing on those answerable with restricted-access Federal Reserve data. Research is typically conducted in collaboration with CDE staff and/or external scholars.
A Ph.D. in economics, public affairs, urban planning, or a related field is strongly preferred. Strong quantitative research skills are required, as is prior research on housing-related topics. In addition, the candidate must be able to convey the key findings and policy relevance of their research to both researcher and non-researcher audiences.
