The Department of Business, Government & Society (BGS) at the University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business invites applications for an assistant professor (tenure track) position focused on firms and the natural environment effective September 1, 2024. Exceptional candidates may be considered at other ranks.
The BGS department (https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/faculty-and-research/departments/bgs/) teaches future leaders at all levels of McCombs’ curriculum how to recognize and respond to the regulatory, legal, ethical and social expectations that businesses face. BGS aims to contribute to important public policy debates in these and related areas through research that applies rigorous social scientific methods to relevant questions. A willingness to also engage with UT-Austin’s Global Sustainability Leadership Institute (https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/centers-and-initiatives/global-sustainability-leadership-institute/), a partnership between the McCombs School and the Moody School of Communication, will be considered an asset.
The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in economics, political science, sociology, or strategic management and be prepared to publish in top outlets in these fields, as well as teach courses on firms and the natural environment (e.g., Net Zero Strategy or Climate Adaptation) and non-market strategy more broadly. Additionally, candidates’ research should primarily focus on business at the organizational- (i.e., firm-) level.
Interested parties should submit the following: 1) a cover letter that includes brief statements of research and teaching interests, 2) a CV, 3) a job market paper, 4) any evidence of teaching effectiveness, and 5) three letters of recommendation. All applications submitted by Friday, September 29, 2023 will receive full consideration, although the search will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. UT-Austin uses Interfolio’s Faculty Search. Applicants to this position receive a free Dossier account and can send all application materials free of charge. The posting is available here:
