Full Text of JOE Listing:

University College London (UCL) is the largest of the colleges in the federation that makes up the University of London.
The Department of Economics has an outstanding international reputation in key areas of current research including applied theory, econometrics, game theory, labour economics, development economics, and macroeconomics.
LongITools is a collaborative project which has received funding under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. It studies the interactions between the environment, lifestyle and health in determining the risks of chronic cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

The postholder will work closely under the supervision of Dr. Conti and will be responsible for executing the LongITools research project, including developing and estimating economic models of parental investment in child health, and of the production of health across the lifecycle, incorporating shocks (e.g. pollution) and policies, and the role of biology; support the access, management and analysis of large-scale datasets; contribute to the writing up and dissemination of the results, and to the submission of research papers to high impact peer reviewed journals.
As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the postholder.

The Post holder will have:
• A PhD in Economics, preferably in the Economics of Health or of Human Development.
• An aptitude and commitment to high quality research.
• The ability to work in a research environment collaboratively and to short deadlines.
• Good interpersonal skills and intellectual breadth.
• A thorough knowledge of economic theory, statistics and econometrics. Knowledge of production function estimation or structural modelling is preferred.
• Experience in handling and analysing large-scale longitudinal data sets, preferably including health measures.
• Excellent working knowledge of statistical and econometric software such as Stata, Matlab or R, with excellent programming skills.
• Fluency in English, effective written and verbal communication skills.

This post is available immediately for 12 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension subject to sufficient funds.
The Appointment will be on UCL salary scale Grade 7, £40,524 to £48,763 per annum inclusive of London Allowance, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
The UCL full-time working week totals 36.5 hours. Annual leave is 27 days per year. In addition, staff benefit from six College closure days per year.
The person appointed will work at the offices of the Department of Economics, Drayton House, 30 Gordon Street, London WC1H 0AX.
