Assistant Professor of Macroeconomics (f/m/div)
The Hertie School and the IfW Kiel are jointly recruiting a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Macroeconomics. The ideal candidate has a research focus on international macro, monetary/fiscal policy or distributional questions. The candidate should combine state-of-the-art empirical, policy-relevant research and should have an excellent international network. Research interests in the macroeconomic implications of climate change and first teaching experiences, matching the needs of a public policy school, are an advantage.
The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Hertie School, with a six-year clock, a reduced teaching load during this period, and the possibility of tenure. The position is an S-professorship with a secondment to the new Berlin-branch of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel).
Applicants for this position must have a doctoral degree in economics or expect to have this degree by the start of employment. We envision a starting date in August 2024. Candidates should enjoy working in an interdisciplinary, international environment with English as the language of instruction and operation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach in the School’s Master, Executive, and PhD programmes.
We seek faculty with the potential to produce research at the highest level in their field. We recruit faculty who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity with a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and innovative research of interest to the international scholarly community and policy-makers.
We offer an internationally competitive salary as well as a paid sabbatical after every five semesters, and we provide excellent working conditions with outstanding financial and administrative support for research. The Hertie School and the new IfW Kiel branch are fully embedded in Berlin’s vibrant research landscape and both institutions have close ties to the top institutions of the European and international research community.
The Hertie School and the IfW Kiel value diversity and welcome all applications – irrespective of gender, nationality, ethnic or social origin, religion/belief, disability, age, or sexual orientation. We expressly encourage women and/or persons from ethnic groups underrepresented in Academia to apply. Equally qualified applicants with recognized disabilities will be given preference. The Hertie School and the IfW Kiel take a family friendly workplace seriously. Under German law, there is standard paid leave for parents after the birth or adoption of a child.
The deadline for the submission of applications is 15.11.2023. Applications must include a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae (including publication list, degrees earned, if applicable: positions held, teaching experience, research projects, awards received), one writing sample (JMP) and, if applicable, teaching evaluations. Application documents are accepted via the online application tool only: http://apply.interfolio.com/133002. Two letters of recommendation from professors familiar with the applicant’s work must be provided directly by the referee (also via the online application tool).
