The FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) is seeking an economist for its Economics Staff. Our staff has the unique opportunity to study questions on the frontier of health economics using proprietary, non-public data. Recent projects include analyzing drug supply chains, the opioid crisis, drug shortages, and other emerging health issues. Our analyses support policy decisions made by the Center director, the FDA commissioner, the Secretary of HHS, and the President.
Our staff is proactive in using machine learning techniques and other data science approaches to study economic issues. Many of the projects we work on require creativity to solve which fosters a work environment where staff can continue to learn and expand their skill set.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens and should have an interest in the following:
-Applying microeconomic concepts and empirical techniques towards solving complex economic problems.
-Develop policy-relevant findings from diverse sets of data.
-Communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
-Working in multi-disciplinary teams.
-Working with large and complicated data sets using Python or R.
