The Graduate School of Economics at Kobe University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track or tenured position at the Associate Professor or Lecturer level. We welcome applications from candidates specialized in any of the following areas: (1) Regional studies on emerging market and developing economies; (2) Cross-regional studies on global issues, including but not limited to, energy, food, climate change, supply chain, and debt problems; (3) Development Economics. The teaching assignments will be based on the applicant’s area of specialization. Applicants should also be able to teach introductory and intermediate courses on economics and related subjects.
The contract is full-time, tenure-track or tenured, starting from October 2024, or April 2025 if there are special reasons. The tenure-track period is five years, with a tenure review will be conducted by the end of the fourth year. The tenured position will be offered for a qualified applicant with an excellent record of academic publication and teaching experience.
Applicants must satisfy all of the conditions below.
(1) Applicants should have a PhD, or an anticipated PhD completion by the date of appointment, in economics. PhD candidates will be asked to prepare and submit a document regarding the expected completion of their PhD after the final offer. The document should be written by the thesis supervisor.
(2) Applicants should have excellent records of scholarly research.
(3) Applicants should be able to teach both in Japanese and English for undergraduate and graduate-level students.

The application deadline is January 31, 2024, in Japan Standard Time (JST). After the screening process, we will conduct a face-to-face (or online) interview. Salary and benefits will be determined based on the annual salary scheme and relevant regulations of Kobe University.
