Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Technology & Policy Research Initiative (TPRI) at Boston University is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to conduct empirical economics research on intangible investments in R&D, software, and advertising. The position involves collaborating with James Bessen and other scholars on studies using confidential microdata at the regional center of the US Census. The research will explore why so few firms invest in these intangibles and what that means for productivity, disparities between firms (by size and ownership by women and minorities), and policy. The position also affords the candidate the opportunity to do research on projects of his or her own choosing. The job provides opportunities to engage in all aspects of the research, including exchanging ideas and comments about work in progress, presenting papers at conferences, and interacting with innovation and technology scholars in law and economics at BU and other Boston area universities. The position requires strong communication skills, an interest in the economics of technology, excellent data management and advanced statistical skills (Stata), strong programming ability, and good teamwork capabilities. Experience working with the Census is a strong plus. The position is full time for one year. Full benefits package as an employee of Boston University.
